Are you ready?

With the Baby Boomer population retiring at nearly 7,500 per day,  do you ever wonder what is coming next?   Generation Z is next.  Born between 1994 and 2010 (plus or minus), this generation is the most “connected” generation.

Is Generation Z just more of Generation Y?   The answer is  NO.   Although there are similar traits, Gen Z is their own unique generation.

What are the characteristics of Generation Z?

1.  The most connected generation, not knowing life without cell phones, ipads and video games

2. Realistic about life and the world around them, growing up with 9-11 and school violence

3. Global citizens, in many cases knowing more about what is going on in “Paris” than their own home town

4. Entrepreneurial, with a desire to have their own business

5. Well educated consumers, knowing more about the latest technologies, restaurants and entertainment

6. Open minded, especially around human rights

What impact will this generation bring to the workplace?

1. Organizational Culture – more demand for coaching, mentoring and reverse mentoring

2. Work Process – Gamification is coming to the workplace- much like video games, learning takes on a new meaning

3. Technology – Do not know life without devices and want the latest greatest in technology

4. Physical Workplace – the need for “cool” space, an appeal of mid-sized organizations and ability to work anytime-anywhere

About the Speaker:

Bill Heisler has over 30 years of experience working with corporations in strategic workplace development, product design and workplace research.  He is part of the Steelcase Global Applied Research and Consulting team.  His experience includes working with organizations transition to new ways of working through innovative workshops and pilot space evaluation that directly engages end users in the process.  As part of Mr. Heisler’s research work, he recently focused on the next generation “Generation Z”.   Mr. Heisler’s current focus is directed on working with healthcare organizations to improve the work experience for clinicians and improve the experience for the patient and the patient advocate.
